Dear Reader,
My name is Erica Rodriguez and my purpose in this life is to offer moments of love and compassion to people of color living in unjust systems of oppression. I've been working in nonprofit organizations and meditating for close to 10 years and in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, I decided to start an organization that will focus on providing mindfulness meditation classes and programs to individuals experiencing hardship in Elizabeth, NJ.
Mindfulness has in the past and still to this day been life-changing for me. My practice has allowed me to build my awareness and heal from childhood trauma, and it continues to help me navigate a world that was not made for me, while inspiring me to take action against systemic oppression.
My intention with this organization is to create a physical and virtual space for children and adults such as returning citizens, first-generation Americans, and low-income youth to practice mindfulness meditation in a trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, language, and queer and trans inclusive way.
I hope that this small glimpse into who I am and what my purpose is will inspire you to reach out to me if you are interested in being part of the Heart & Mind Center's community or Board of Directors. Please feel free to contact me at the information below to learn more about the organization and our future programs.
Mindfully,
Erica, a cis-gender, queer, sister, daughter, Agnostic, galactic Latina woman in healing.
